The list of 4,000 recipients of flats under the Gedhoruveriya Scheme in Hulhumale will undergo a review, with a provisional list expected to be announced next week, Housing Minister Dr Ali Haider said Saturday.

The previous government had finalised a permanent list of beneficiaries and signed agreements with some recipients before the end of its term.

However, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) launched an investigation into the beneficiary list, halting the award process. According to the ACC's findings in February, 59.6% of the applications examined were ineligible.

Following the investigation, the current government decided to review the list before distributing the flats. A special committee has been working on the review for the past six months.

The ministry had initially planned to release an updated list last month, and while November has been cited for its release, no specific date has been provided.

Haider provided an update on the review process during an appearance on the state media programme Saturday evening.

"After re-evaluating all the applications, we will hopefully announce a provisional list within the next week, after which we will open a complaints process," Haider said.

Haider further detailed that after the provisional list is open for complaints, a permanent list will be prepared before the end of the year.

The ACC’s report noted that 60% of applicants were ineligible, while 20% were deemed eligible with no issues, prompting a comprehensive reassessment of the list. A total of 20,697 applications for the scheme are now being processed in the review.
