Govt indefinitely delays revised flat recipients list
The statement also confirmed that the list gazetted by the previous administration would be revised without adding new recipients.
The announcement of the revised list of flat recipients under the Gedhoruveriya housing scheme has been postponed indefinitely due to an ongoing review by the current administration.
A list of 4,000 recipients under the scheme was gazetted by the previous government before the end of its term. However, concerns emerged after some recipients signed agreements, leading to widespread complaints regarding the list’s accuracy.
An investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) found that 59.6% of the applications on the list were ineligible. Following the findings, the government halted the publication of the revised list to address the identified issues.
Housing minister Dr Ali Haider stated in a news conference last week that the revised list would be published later this week. However, the mousing ministry issued a press release on Saturday indicating that additional time is required to complete the re-evaluation process.
The ministry's statement noted that application forms are still under review, following advice from a committee established on the instructions of President Mohamed Muizzu. The committee is tasked with addressing the discrepancies in processing the 20,697 applications submitted under the Gedhoruveriya scheme.
The statement also confirmed that the list gazetted by the previous administration would be revised without adding new recipients.
Haider has previously provided different timelines for the release of the list, initially stating it would be available in October before announcing its release this week.
The review process is being conducted under the rules and conditions established by the former administration.
