Construction minister Dr Abdulla Muththalib on Saturday assured that no housing-related information was lost in the fire that destroyed the housing ministry building on Thursday.
Speaking at a press conference held at Dharubaaruge, Muththalib stated that a significant portion of the ministry's data had been backed up.
“So far, we have found that a considerable amount of data is stored and backed up. We are currently reviewing and assessing what may be missing,” Muththalib said.
The minister emphasised that all information related to housing services and applications remains intact.
“No housing-related information has been lost. We are confident that all the necessary data is available,” he added.
Muththalib also confirmed that information and forms related to new loan applicants are securely stored in the cloud. However, he noted that efforts are underway to assess the extent of historical data losses.
“We are hopeful that the government’s essential information required to provide services to the public remains accessible. We request the public not to worry,” he said.
To address operational challenges caused by the fire, Muththalib outlined several steps being taken:
-
Services to the public will resume as usual from Sunday.
-
Three ministries, including the housing ministry, are being relocated to Dharubaaruge.
-
Staffing needs are being addressed and will be finalised by Sunday.
