Maldives locates foreign vessel with drone
Photos released by the MNDF depict the seized vessel as a fishing boat, which is suspected to have originated from South India or Sri Lanka.
Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has successfully recovered a foreign vessel that had illegally entered Maldivian waters.
This successful operation was carried out with the assistance of an MNDF drone, which played a key role in locating the intruding ship.
The ship was intercepted during a joint operation between the Air Co-Drone unit and the Coast Guard in the northern maritime region of the Maldives. The utilization of the drone enabled the swift identification of the ship’s location, facilitating prompt action by the MNDF forces.
Photos released by the MNDF on Saturday depict the seized vessel as a fishing boat, which is suspected to have originated from South India or Sri Lanka.
The presence of unauthorized foreign vessels poses significant risks to national security and the sustainability of local fisheries.
Following its recovery, the ship has been taken into MNDF custody.
