RCC awarded contract to build new Arabiyya building
The original plan for the new Arabiyya School building was to commence construction within the first 14 weeks of the current administration.
The long-anticipated construction of the new Arabiyya School building has officially begun, following years of planning and discussions.
The project, funded with a discount of MVR 80 million, marks a step forward in the government’s commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure.
The original plan for the new Arabiyya School building was to commence construction within the first 14 weeks of the current administration. However, progress was delayed due to financial concerns.
Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu addressed Parliament, explaining that the decision to postpone was made to avoid excessive spending from state funds. This pause allowed for a strategic reassessment of the project's budget and design, ensuring a more cost-effective approach.
To align with the government's 'Week 14' roadmap, the design of the new building was revised. The Ministry of Education worked closely with the contractor to incorporate these changes, ultimately leading to the cancellation of the original contract. After negotiations, the project was re-awarded on a design-and-build basis to Rasheed Carpentry and Construction (RCC), a trusted local construction firm.
The new construction project, valued at MVR 152.9 million, is slated for completion within 540 days. The redesigned school will feature state-of-the-art facilities, ensuring it meets modern educational standards. Key elements of the project include:
-
40 Classrooms: Spacious, well-equipped classrooms to cater to a growing student population.
-
Basement Parking: An underground parking facility to alleviate traffic congestion in the surrounding area.
-
Turf Field: A high-quality turf field for physical education and recreational activities.
-
Modern Amenities: The building will be fully air-conditioned, providing a comfortable learning environment.
-
Sustainability Features: Solar panels will be installed to support renewable energy use and promote environmental responsibility.
The new school building was initially planned for the site of the old Jamaaludheen School. However, following discussions and requests from the parents of Arabiyya School students, President Mohamed Muizzu approved additional space to accommodate the new facilities. This expansion reflects the administration’s dedication to meeting the needs of the community and fostering an environment conducive to academic excellence.
