Maldives Police Service has recovered five laptops stolen from the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) project office in Farukoshufushi.

The theft was reported on Monday amid ongoing investigations into alleged land and flat fraud at HDC.

A police spokesperson confirmed the recovery but did not disclose where the laptops were found or whether any data had been compromised.

  • The laptops were stolen from the HDC project office in Farukoshufushi.

  • The suspect, currently in custody on drug-related charges, is cooperating with the investigation.

The theft occurred as HDC faces scrutiny over alleged fraudulent allocation of land and flats. Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, the former Managing Director of HDC, resigned after being suspended following reports of land being allocated to Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed, the suspended Deputy Managing Director of MWSC.

The investigation has led to the seizure of passports of multiple individuals, including Fazul, HDC employees, housing ministry staff, and senior officials from the previous administration’s housing ministry.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding both the theft and the broader fraud allegations.
