Police raid Fazul's flat, seize electronics over land probe
Fazul resigned on Saturday after being suspended, along with other board members.
Police raided the residence of former Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed on Monday as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged fraudulent land and flat allocations in Hulhumale.
The investigation focuses on allegations of selling land at below-market prices, granting land to unauthorised individuals, and irregularities in flat allocation processes.
Fazul resigned on Saturday after being suspended, along with other board members. Several HDC employees have also been dismissed in connection with the case.
In a message on Tuesday, police confirmed the search at Fazul's residence late Monday evening. Items relevant to the investigation, including electronic equipment, were seized. No further details were provided.
The probe, led by police and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), was initiated on the orders of Prosecutor General Abbas Shareef. Passports of 20 individuals, including Fazul, have been confiscated to prevent them from leaving the country.
Authorities are examining evidence related to what has been referred to as the Binveriya and Gedhoruveriya schemes to determine the extent of the alleged fraud.
