President Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday announced that the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) public transport network will be operational in all atolls across the Maldives by the end of this year.
The next atoll to receive the service will be Raa Atoll, with operations expected to begin before the end of June.
Speaking during a meeting with residents of Inguraidhoo in Raa Atoll, President Muizzu stated that RTL ferry services would be extended to Baa Atoll in July.
“Following the launch in Baa Atoll, the service will be expanded to the remaining provinces, completing the network by the end of this year,” he said.
The RTL network, which is designed to improve inter-island connectivity, divides the Maldives into six operational zones. Currently, the service is operational in three zones:
-
The northern zone, comprising Haa Alif, Haa Dhaalu, Shaviyani, and Noonu Atolls.
-
Lhaviyani Atoll.
-
The southern zone, covering Gaafu Alifu, Gaafu Dhaalu, Fuvahmulah, and Addu.
The high-speed ferry network aims to provide reliable transportation for residents and support economic and social development across the Maldives.
