Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) on Sunday approved the sale of two drugs that were temporarily banned from import, sale, and use in the Maldives.
In a public announcement, the MFDA stated that the available batches of the two drugs have undergone testing to ensure their safety. The approved drugs are:
-
1-
Mefnac Suspension 50mg/5ml (Mefenamic Acid) – Manufactured by Efroze Chemical Industries (Pvt.) Ltd, Pakistan.
-
2-
Axcel Mefenamic Acid Suspension 125mg/5ml (Mefenamic Acid) – Manufactured by Kotra Pharma (M) Sdn. Bhd., Malaysia.
The MFDA explained that samples from the temporarily banned drugs were collected and tested to verify their safety before approving their reintroduction to the market. The two drugs can now be imported, sold, and used as previously permitted.
As an added precaution, the MFDA has required importers of these drugs to submit diethylene glycol (DEG) and ethylene glycol (EG) analysis reports. These reports must be conducted by laboratories authorised by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
The MFDA emphasised that this measure aims to maintain safety standards for pharmaceuticals available in the Maldives.
