ACC raids Thinadhoo council, allegations of theft denied
Thinadhoo North MP Saudulla has filed several cases with the ACC against the council, controlled by MDP.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) conducted a raid on the Gh. Thinadhoo City Council Monday, seizing several items as part of an ongoing investigation.
An ACC official confirmed the operation, stating, "The ACC has received multiple cases involving the Thinadhoo City Council. Our officers visited the council to collect materials necessary for these investigations."
However, the Thinadhoo City Council’s official Facebook page claimed that individuals identifying themselves as ACC officers entered the premises and removed items without authorisation. The council further alleged that the incident was not an official action by the ACC and reported the matter to the Maldives Police Service.
"A large number of items belonging to the Thinadhoo City Council have been taken by individuals claiming to represent the ACC," the council said.
The council added that some of its services have been suspended as a result of the incident.
The Maldives Police Service acknowledged receiving a report of theft but stated that no evidence currently supports the claim.
Thinadhoo North MP Saudulla Hilmy has filed several cases with the ACC against the Thinadhoo City Council, which is controlled by the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
