School holidays begin as students receive report books

This year’s long holiday coincides with the month of Ramadan.

The annual school holidays have begun in the Maldives with the distribution of report books to students across the country today.

Report books were handed out in all schools on Thursday, marking the end of the academic term.

According to educational statistics from the previous year:

  • 96,000 students were enrolled in schools across the Maldives.

  • Students ranged from pre-school to higher grades.

  • The student population included 42,700 boys and 40,300 girls.

  • More than 12,000 teachers were employed in schools.

The school holidays will last for more than a month.

According to the academic calendar for the upcoming year:

  • The new school year will begin on 7 April.

  • The first term vacation will start on 24 July.

  • The second term will begin on 10 August.

  • A mid-term break is scheduled for 21 September.

  • The academic year will conclude in December, followed by the long holiday.

With the holidays now underway, many families are preparing to travel to their home islands. This year’s long holiday coincides with the month of Ramadan.
