State Electric Company (STELCO) on Sunday reported a decrease in electricity consumption in the Male region on the first day of Ramadan compared to previous years.

According to STELCO, 78 MW of electricity was consumed during peak hours on Saturday. The company attributed the lower consumption to rainy weather and the closure of schools and offices.

Before Ramadan, the average electricity consumption during peak hours exceeded 100 MW.

STELCO stated that preparations have been made to ensure uninterrupted power supply during Ramadan. Additionally, the government has announced a 10% discount on electricity and water bills for the month.
