Govt mandates crew presence on anchored vessels

The Ministry of Transport has announced that an adequate number of crew members must be present to maintain marine vessels while they are anchored in lagoons or jetties.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the ministry highlighted that several incidents have occurred due to vessels being left unattended. The ministry emphasised that the presence of crew members is necessary for safety and security while the vessel is anchored.

The announcement also states that vessel owners who fail to ensure the required number of crew members will face MVR 1,000 fines.
