A total of 646 flats in Hulhumale have been reserved for the employees of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), with the selected employees receiving award letters.

Recently, a special function was organised to hand over the documents to the employees who have been allotted flats under the HDC employees' flat scheme.

Most of the flats allotted to HDC employees are part of a housing project that was handed over to Amin Construction in 2016.

  • The flats are located in three blocks adjacent to the 'Rain Crest' development

  • There are four 14-storey towers in each block

  • More than 460 flats are being constructed in these buildings

  • The flat was started to provide affordable housing to various government employees

In a statement shared with Atoll Times, HDC told Atoll Times on Thursday that the employees who will be allotted flats were selected on the basis of their length of service, employment performance and housing status.

HDC said:

  • Contracts signing will begin next month

  • The flats will be completed and handed over for a period of three years

  • First rounds of flats to be handed over next year; all flats to be handed over by 2025

"This project will provide a lot of relief to HDC employees and families in terms of livelihood," HDC said in the statement.

HDC said the housing project, which was part of the scheme to provide flats to its employees, had stalled when the current government came to power because funding was not secured before project kick-off. However, the incumbent government allocated funds for the project and the construction of the flats has been going on since last year, the company added.
