Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been awarded the contract to develop the northern end of Boduthakurufaanu Magu in Malé.

A formal agreement for the project was signed Wednesday at the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure. The ministry was represented by Minister Dr Abdulla Muththalib, while MTCC was represented by Managing Director Ahmed Saudy.

Under the agreement, tarring will be carried out from the Malé Fish Market to the Henveiru Ferry Terminal, covering a stretch of 830 metres.

The scope of the project includes widening the existing road and extending the keywall. Sheet piling will be conducted over a 737-metre section. The development will also include the installation of a drainage system, access gates, road markings and sign boards.

According to the Ministry, the project is expected to improve traffic flow in the area. The work is scheduled for completion within 455 days at a cost of MVR 144.5 million.

At the bridge development and reopening ceremony held on 27th of last month, President Mohamed Muizzu stated that the project would be completed within the year. He also announced that the Chinese-funded Malé road construction project is expected to commence during the same period.
