
Second burn victim in Rasdhoo fire dies
Samin’s former spouse, Aishath Rifqa, also aged 31, died on 31 March from injuries sustained in the same incident.

A man who sustained severe burn injuries in a fire incident in AA. Rasdhoo has died while undergoing treatment in India.
Ali Samin, 31, was an employee at the Rasdhoo branch of the Bank of Maldives. He had sustained burns over 78 percent of his body and was initially treated in the Intensive Care Unit of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) before being transferred to India for further treatment on 7 April.
Samin underwent surgery in India, but his condition did not improve significantly. Doctors had initially assessed that the likelihood of survival was low due to the extent of the injuries. Following a brief period of stabilisation, his family arranged for treatment abroad.
Samin’s former spouse, Aishath Rifqa, also aged 31, died on 31 March from injuries sustained in the same incident. She had suffered burns on 83 percent of her body.
The fire did not cause structural damage to the room in which the incident occurred. Other individuals were present in the house at the time, but no additional injuries were reported. The couple’s five-year-old child was unharmed in the incident.
Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the cause of the fire.
