The body of Moosa Ibrahim, 29, who was fatally stabbed during an altercation in L. Maavah on Monday, has been transported to Malé for further forensic examination.
Police confirmed that the incident was reported around 10 a.m. Moosa Ibrahim, a resident of Nalahiya/Maavah, was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Mohamed Ibrahim, 29, from Asri Manzil, HDh. Nolhivaranfaru, was arrested on the same day in connection with the case. Authorities recovered the knife allegedly used in the attack from the beach. Police also stated that Mohamed Ibrahim has a history of drug-related offences.
According to a witness from Maavah, the altercation occurred in the morning and involved the two individuals. Police confirmed that Moosa was stabbed in the neck during the confrontation.
Another resident said both men were known to have criminal backgrounds. Mohamed Ibrahim had been residing in Maavah after marrying a local resident, though they are now divorced. Despite this, he continues to visit the island.
Local residents have speculated that the dispute may have been related to drugs. Police have not confirmed a motive but have stated that investigations are ongoing.
