Hithadhoo Central MP Ahmed Azaan has been reappointed to the Finance Committee and the 241 Committee on Security Services of the Parliament, five months after his removal.
Azaan, who also sits on the Petitions Committee and the Privileges Committee, was removed from the two committees in March after violating a parliamentary whip issued by the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) during a vote on a bill concerning the removal of two Supreme Court judges.
The changes were formally announced by the Speaker of Parliament, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, on Tuesday.
Under the new arrangement, Azaan replaces Mohamed Ismail, MP for Villimale, on the 241 Committee, and Henveiru North MP Ahmed Aifan on the Finance Committee.
Azaan had also been expelled from the PNC parliamentary group's official WhatsApp group following his breach of the whipline. However, his relationship with the government has shown signs of improvement in recent months.
