The road widening and development project on the northern section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu in Malé began on Thursday.
Housing Minister Dr Abdulla Muththalib inaugurated the project at a ceremony held to mark the commencement of work.
The project has been awarded to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) at a cost of MVR 144 million. The work has been scheduled for completion within 455 days, or approximately 15 months.
According to the project plan, the main works will include:

Widening the road to four lanes.

Tarring an 830-metre stretch of road between the Hulhumalé Ferry Terminal and the Local Market.

Construction of pedestrian walkways.

Establishment of a drainage system.

Installation of road markings and signage.

Sheet piling along a 737-metre section.
Authorities announced that one half of the road will remain closed for development works from Thursday until 13 October.
