The government-controlled JSC had already been examining cases concerning three High Court judges. Reliable sources confirmed to Atoll Times that the JSC is now investigating former High Court Chief Justice Mohamed Faisal and Justice Fathimath Farheeza.
A JSC official confirmed that the cases involving both judges are under investigation, though no further details were disclosed.
Faisal was appointed to the High Court in July 2018 during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen and became Chief Justice of the High Court in April 2023. On Tuesday, the JSC reassigned administrative responsibility for the High Court to Justice Abdulla Jameel.
The three other High Court judges previously under review by the JSC are:
-
Judge Mohamed Niyaz
-
Justice Hussain Mazeed
-
Justice Deebanaz Fahmy
The cases of these three judges remain pending.
Justice Niyaz submitted his retirement to the JSC on Tuesday. He recently resigned as Vice-President of the commission and is the longest-serving judge on the High Court bench.
