Faisal visits Fuvahmulah to mobilise MDP teams for council elections

Faisal and former Housing Minister Mohamed Aslam arrived in Fuvahmulah on Friday, where they were received by party supporters at the airport.

Former Vice President Faisal Naseem has travelled to his home island of Fuvahmulah to mobilise Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) teams ahead of the March 2026 council elections.

Faisal and former Housing Minister Mohamed Aslam arrived in Fuvahmulah on Friday, where they were received by party supporters at the airport. They were accompanied by:

  • Former Fuvahmulah MPs Hussain Mohamed Didi and Mohamed Mumthaz

  • MDP National Assembly members Ibrahim Saeed (Northern Constituency President) and Ilyas Mohamed (Southern Constituency President)

According to party officials, the purpose of the visit is to strengthen MDP teams for the upcoming elections and to review the progress of development projects initiated under the previous MDP government.

The three-day visit includes a series of monitoring and engagement activities, such as:

  • Reviewing the city’s water supply issues

  • Inspecting the seawall protection site and the swimming area

  • Visiting tarred roads and closed canal locations

  • Visiting the Quran Centre

  • Meetings at schools

  • Visiting Masjid al-Huda and the Dhoodigan harbour mosque

  • Inspections of sports facilities including Dhandimagu Turf Ground, Hodhandu Turf Ground, Dhoodigan Badminton Complex and the Table Tennis Hall

  • Visiting the hospital

  • Assessing employment opportunities at Maldivian Call Centre, HDC and Tradenet

  • Visiting local households

  • Inspecting the new power plant building site

  • Reviewing the RTL transportation system established by the former administration

The MDP aims to consolidate support in Fuvahmulah ahead of the local council elections, where competition is expected to intensify.
