Two former department heads at Fenaka Corporation have been sent for prosecution over alleged corruption relating to the installation of security cameras across the company’s branches.

The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) said on Monday that the Criminal Court has accepted the case concerning the installation of security camera systems in all Fenaka branches.

The accused are:

  • Ismail Shamoon, M. Fehividhuvaru

  • Mariyam Dheena Solih, Maizaan, Hodhandu/Fuvahmulah

According to the PGO, the pair were charged with abuse of position for awarding a contract on 25 June 2018 to Kairetsu Pvt Ltd for the installation of a security camera system in all branches, as well as a command centre and video conferencing system at Fenaka’s head office. At the time, Dheena was serving as procurement head and Shamoon as IT head.

The prosecution stated that both individuals misused their official positions by approving payment to the contractor before the goods were received.

If convicted, the basic sentence for the offence is one year, seven months and six days in prison.
