The ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) has recorded an increase in its membership, surpassing 70,000 registered members, according to the party’s parliamentary group leader Ahmed Falah.
Speaking at a press conference held at the party’s office on Wednesday, Falah, who also serves as the PNC’s election campaign manager, said the party’s registered membership had crossed the 70,000 mark.
Falah said the increase occurred in the lead-up to the party’s primary elections for the upcoming local council polls.
“With the primary process under way, the total number of registered members has now exceeded 70,000,” he said.
He added that the party had approximately 69,000 members at the end of last month, and estimated that the total membership could reach about 75,000 with those who joined in recent days.
Falah attributed the increase in membership to public support for the current administration under President Mohamed Muizzu.
