A political appointee arrested on Sunday under Operation Alimagu has been dismissed from his post, the President’s Office confirmed.
Police arrested four people on Sunday as part of Maldives Police Service Operation Alimagu, an operation launched in November to target drug trafficking and money laundering networks. Among those arrested was Ahmed Anam Ibrahim, 30, who served as Senior Political Director at the Ministry of Economic Development.
Presidential Spokesperson Heena Waleed told Atoll Times on Monday that Anam has been removed from his position.

Police said Anam and Ahmed Madhih were arrested in the Malé area, while the remaining two suspects were taken into custody in GA. Villingili.
According to information released by police, at least MVR 20 million was circulated through the accounts of some of the arrested individuals on different dates. Police also said the total amount moved through accounts linked to the network exceeds MVR 70 million.
Investigations into the case are ongoing.
