Applications open for land and flats

The deadline for applications for land plots is 4 March, while applications for flats will close on 17 April.

Applications for land plots and flats under the government’s Housing for All policy opened on Sunday.

The Ministry of Housing said applications must be submitted through the newly launched housing portal.

Under the programme, a total of 15,000 land plots will be allocated in the Greater Malé area and Rasmalé. In addition, 7,900 flats will be allocated in the Greater Malé area.

The deadline for applications for land plots is 4 March, while applications for flats will close on 17 April.

The ministry said the scheme is intended to allocate land and flats to residents of Malé and individuals currently residing in Malé.

A total of 15,000 land plots, covering 1,250 acres, will be allocated to Malé residents under the scheme. The allocation includes:

  • 10,000 plots for Malé residents

  • 3,000 plots for residents of other islands living in Malé

  • 500 plots for individuals deprived of land ownership due to permanent injury

  • 1,500 plots for residents required to relocate due to narrow streets in Malé

Under the flat allocation rules, 7,900 flats will be distributed as follows:

  • 4,000 flats for Malé residents

  • 1,500 flats for non-residents living in Malé

  • 100 flats for single parents with children under 18

  • 100 flats for persons with disabilities

  • 250 flats for newlyweds and young families

  • 50 flats for family-based taxi drivers registered in Malé

  • 200 flats for family-based tourism workers in Malé

  • 100 flats for family-based judiciary employees in Malé

  • 100 flats for family-based fishermen in Malé

  • 50 flats for individuals deprived of land ownership due to permanent injury

  • 500 flats for applicants who received allocations under the Veshifahi Malé and Hiyaa housing projects but did not receive flats in line with documentation

  • 50 flats for families identified by the government as lacking accommodation in Malé

  • 100 flats for police personnel

  • 100 flats for members of the Maldives National Defence Force

  • 200 flats for civil servants

  • 100 flats for correctional service staff

In addition, 400 flats have been allocated for government agencies and institutions. These include the President’s Office, Parliament Secretariat, Maldives Inland Revenue Authority, Local Government Authority, Judicial Service Commission, Foreign Service, Attorney General’s Office, Elections Commission, Civil Service Commission, Human Rights Commission of the Maldives, Anti-Corruption Commission, Prosecutor General’s Office, Audit Office, Maldives Monetary Authority, Pension Office, National Integrity Commission, Media and Broadcasting Commission, Family Protection Authority, Arbitration Centre, Children’s Ombudsman Office, Institute of Chartered Accountants, Capital Market Development Authority, Employment Tribunal and the Tax Appeal Tribunal.
