Govt to send Ramadan tuna to all islands this week

Local Government Minister Adam Shareef Umar said on Saturday that the canned tuna cases allocated to households for the upcoming month of Ramadan will be delivered to all islands within this week.

According to the ministry, the cases are being transported to the islands by the State Trading Organisation and distributed by island councils.
In a post on X, Minister Adam Shareef said the delivery to all islands is expected to be completed before the end of this week.
The ministry said a total of 118,673 households have been identified as eligible for the distribution this year. Of these, 56,918 are in the atolls and 61,755 are domestic electricity meters in the Malé area.
In the Malé area, canned tuna cases are being distributed daily from 8:30 pm to 11:00 pm, except on Sundays. Distribution will continue until 11 February.
Fifteen distribution centres have been set up in the Malé area, including eight in Malé, one in Vilimalé and six in Hulhumalé.
Households are required to obtain a token through a portal introduced by the police in order to collect the canned tuna cases.
