Over 12,000 tuna cases distributed in Malé by Monday
The ministry said shipments of canned tuna cases to the islands began on Tuesday, where island councils will oversee distribution to households.

A total of 12,274 cases of canned tuna had been distributed in the Malé region by Monday night, the Ministry of Local Government said on Tuesday.
The government began distributing canned tuna cases on Saturday night as part of its Ramadan assistance programme. The cases are being issued only during evening hours.
From Saturday night to Monday night, 12,274 cases were distributed over three nights, representing 18.8 per cent of households in the Malé area, according to the ministry.
The Ministry of Local Government said there are 65,230 registered domestic meters in the Greater Malé area. Each domestic meter is counted as a household for the purpose of distribution.
Canned tuna cases are issued each night from 8:30pm to 11pm, except on Fridays. Distribution is scheduled to continue until the 11th of next month.
Fifteen centres have been established to distribute the Ramadan gifts in the Malé region. These include eight centres in Malé, one in Vilimalé and six in Hulhumalé.
Households are required to obtain a token through a portal introduced by the police before collecting the cases.
