Man fined over 2018 motorcycle collision causing skull injury
The court imposed a fine of MVR 115,200, to be paid within two years.
Criminal Court on Monday fined a man MVR 115,200 for causing serious injury in a motorcycle collision near the Industrial Zone in Malé in 2018.
The incident occurred on 26 June 2018, when two motorcycles collided near the Industrial Zone. One rider sustained a skull fracture as a result of the collision.
Ali Mohamed, of Rasreethi, HDh. Kulhudhuffushi, was charged with assault in connection with the incident.
The Criminal Court said Ali Mohamed pleaded guilty to the charge and entered into a plea agreement with the state. Under the agreement, the custodial sentence was commuted to a monetary fine.
The statutory penalty for the offence is one year, seven months and six days of imprisonment. Instead, the court imposed a fine of MVR 115,200, to be paid within two years.
