The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has invited proposals for consultancy services to assess the condition of the Sinamalé and Malé Hiya flats.

According to an announcement issued by the ministry on Monday, the assessment is required to prepare tender documents for renovation and maintenance works at the residential buildings.

The opportunity is open to local companies and individual consultants. The ministry has also published the Request for Proposal document.

Under the terms of the proposal, the selected party will be required to carry out structural, architectural, mechanical and electrical assessments of the buildings to determine their current condition. The assessment will also identify any risks to residents arising from deterioration of the structures.

The consultant will be required to provide the government with technical information needed to appoint contractors for the renovation and maintenance works. This will include safety guidelines, engineering specifications, drawings and repair methods required for the work.

Interested parties have been asked to submit proposals by 1:00 p.m. on the 31st of this month.

The announcement comes as the Malé City Council had earlier sought parties to undertake maintenance and repair of the flats for a one-year period.

Redevelopment of the Sinamalé and Malé Hiya sites through a new housing project was among the pledges of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and was approved during his tenure as Mayor of Malé. The initial plan proposed new apartments for current flat owners and additional housing units for other residents.

During a meeting with Galolhu residents last December, concerns were raised over the condition of the buildings and the lack of repairs.

Following those concerns, President Muizzu decided to provide a one-off allowance of MVR 100,000 to residents of the flats and to carry out a full assessment to facilitate repair and renovation works.
