Nazim removed from key parliamentary committees
Committee membership changes are typically made following a request from a party’s Parliamentary Group.
Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ahmed Nazim has been removed from the National Security Services Committee and the Public Accounts Committee and reassigned to the Environment and Climate Change Committee.
The changes have been reflected on the Parliament website and were confirmed on Monday.
Committee membership changes are typically made following a request from a party’s Parliamentary Group, with formal announcement during a parliamentary sitting. However, no such announcement was made during recent sittings presided over by Nazim.
A parliamentary official confirmed that the changes took place on Monday.
Under the reshuffle, Nazim has been removed from the National Security Services Committee, commonly referred to as the 241 Committee, and the Public Accounts Committee. He has been appointed to the Environment and Climate Change Committee. He will continue to serve on the State-Owned Enterprises Committee.
Member of Parliament Ahmed Zameer has been appointed to the National Security Services Committee, while Member of Parliament Hamad Abdulla has been appointed to the Public Accounts Committee.
The reason for the changes has not been disclosed.
The reshuffle follows adjustments within the government and the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) after the recent local council elections. It is not confirmed whether the changes are linked to those developments.
Efforts to obtain comment from PNC Parliamentary Group Leader Ibrahim Falah were unsuccessful.
