The ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) has decided to bring forward its party congress, which was originally scheduled to take place in October.

The decision was made during a party assembly held on Monday night.

In a post on social media, Baarah MP Ibrahim Shujau said members had gathered for a general assembly and unanimously approved a proposal submitted during the meeting.

According to Shujau, the proposal was presented by President Mohamed Muizzu. However, he did not disclose details of the proposal in his post.

He also noted that party assemblies would be held more frequently going forward.

“The entire party is currently gearing up for a successful party congress,” Shujau wrote.

Information obtained by Dhauru indicates that the proposal approved at the assembly was to advance the date of the PNC congress.

While members endorsed the proposal, the party has not yet announced when the congress will now take place.

The congress had previously been scheduled for October.

The PNC has not issued an official statement detailing the reasons for the decision or confirming the revised date.

Party congresses are responsible for considering constitutional amendments, electing office bearers and making decisions on party policies and organisational matters.

Further details regarding the timing and agenda of the congress are expected to be announced by the party in the coming weeks.
