Police probe threat by man to 'sell' ex-wife

Police have launched an investigation into a case involving allegations that a man threatened his former wife by claiming he would sell her to another person.

According to the Maldives Police Service, the case was reported to Hulhumalé Phase II Police Station on Friday morning.

Police clarified that the report does not involve allegations of sexual abuse. Authorities also stated that there is no allegation that the woman was sold to another person or that any human trafficking transaction took place.

However, police said the matter remains under investigation.

No further details about the individuals involved or the circumstances surrounding the alleged threat have been disclosed.

The case comes as police continue to investigate a separate matter involving a Bangladeshi couple. In that case, a man has been accused of confining his wife in a room and forcing her into prostitution against her will.

Police have not indicated whether any arrests have been made in connection with the latest case.
