A 13-year-old boy died on Friday after a buggy entered the sea in ADh. Hangnaameedhoo.
The deceased has been identified as Ali Anas bin Mohamed Areesh.
According to information available, the incident occurred on Friday evening after the boy got into a parked buggy that had been left with its keys inside and started driving it.
The boy was reportedly unable to control the vehicle, which travelled into the harbour basin.
During the incident, the buggy is understood to have struck a nearby vessel before entering the water, causing the boy to sustain injuries.
Anas was taken to the island's health centre for treatment, where he later died.
The circumstances surrounding the incident have not been officially disclosed.
