Housing Development Corporation (HDC) on Wednesday revealed that more than 200 parties have expressed interest in running garages in Hulhumale as part of the ongoing efforts to relocate industrial establishments such as garages from residential areas in Male.
HDC had last month opened applications for 23 units of different sizes. It was decided to allot the land:
-
Garages less than 1,000 square feet will be given 1,000 sqft
-
1,300 sq ft to be allotted to garages larger than 1,000 sqft
-
Garages built on land allotted in Hulhumale can be constructed to two floors
HDC Assistant Public Relations Manager Mimrah Ahmed told Atoll Times on Wednesday that more than 200 applicants had shown interest when it opened for 23 units. The company is working on handing over the land earmarked for the garages by March, he said.
"When we get a lot of proposals, it takes a lot of time for evaluation. It will take time," Mimrah said.
HDC decided to give land from Hulhumale to run garages after a major fire broke out in the lower garage/workshop floor of M. Nirfehi in the area between Iskandharu Magu and Koarukendi Magu in November 2022.
