Planning ministry said Monday that three contractors have submitted bids for land reclamation to develop airports in four islands.
Last year, the ministry opened up for developing airports in six parts of the country and sought people to finance the project on a cross-subsidised basis. These locations are:
-
HDh. Makunudhoo
-
Sh. Bileiyfahi
-
Island in the south of R. Atoll (no specific island)
-
B. Thulhadhoo
-
F. Magoodhoo
-
Th. Villufushi
Of these, MTCC has been entrusted with the task of reclaiming land for the airport in Magoodhoo.
In a tweet Monday evening, the planning ministry said that three bidders had submitted bids for the restricted tendering held for Makunudhoo, Bileiyfahi, Thulhaadhoo and Villufushi.
The ministry said it is in the process of evaluating the bids in coordination with the finance ministry.
The ministry did not specify the details of the three bidders. When contacted, the ministry said it would share the information on their official website on Tuesday.
The government's policy is to develop domestic airports within 30 minutes of every residential island.
In addition to the development of the domestic airport, funds have also been raised for the development of Iskandhar airport in L. Kaddhoo and making it into an international airport.
