A racing car hit a bus on the Sinamale Bridge on Monday evening, leading to traffic snarls as it caused a major traffic jam.
An MTCC bus travelling from Male to Hulhumale collided head-on with the car at around 10 pm.
Images of the accident accessed by Atoll Times show that the accident took place when the car boarded the cycle lane to overtake the bus and was about to return to the other lane. The front of the car hit the front of the bus.
There were no immediate reports of injuries in the accident. However, the front of the car was badly damaged.
There was a huge jam in the area as the accident prevented drivers from crossing the bridge to Hulhumale and the queue on the Male side ran all the way up to the Henveiyru surfing point and petrol shed area.
Police did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the accident.
This is the third accident in the city area in the last 24 hours. The previous two accidents took place in Hulhumale Phase II. In the second accident, one person was killed.
