Police have started collecting samples of some people living in N. Manadhoo island in connection with the murder of Naeema Moosa, who was found murdered inside her own house early this month.

However, it was not immediately clear whether they were suspects in the investigation.

Naeema Moosa, 62, was found murdered at her home, Annaarumaage in the island of Manadhoo, where she lived and had her registration, on April 7.

  • Several places on her body were stabbed with a sharp object; there were signs that her throat had been slit by a sharp object as well

  • A team from the serious and organised crime department of the police travelled to Manadhoo to investigate the case

  • After a police forensic pathologist concluded that there was no need for a post-mortem, Naeema was buried in the island the next day

  • Apart from the house where Naeema lived, they have so far searched four houses in the island, including a house housing migrant labourers and an uninhabited house

A reliable source confirmed to Atoll Times on Sunday that the police were collecting samples of some residents of the island in connection with the murder. Fingerprints were collected mostly.

However, it is not yet certain from whom exactly these samples are being taken from, or how they are related to the victim or her murder.

The police have also asked the islanders to share the information with the police if they have any knowledge of any suspects or suspicious activity.

Police did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

A senior police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Atoll Times last week that so far, the investigation has not identified any individual or group suspected of being involved in the murder of Naeema.
