MVR 9m as Zakat receipts in Ramadan
According to the ministry's data, 175,485 people paid alms to the ministry over the 29 days of the fasting month of Ramadan.
MVR 9 million was received as the mandatory Fitr Zakat alms during this Ramadan, Islamic ministry announced Friday.
According to the ministry's data, 175,485 people paid alms to the ministry over the 29 days of the fasting month of Ramadan.
As many as 8,446 people are registered as poor. Out of these, 1,736 people in the capital were paid MVR 3,450 per person or MVR 5.99 million in total. Zakat money was deposited in their accounts on Thursday, the ministry said.
The balance MVR 3 million is yet to be disbursed, a ministry official said. He added that the island councils are distributing Zakat money to the poor registered in the respective islands.
In addition to the monetary receipts, 12,989.3 kg was received from the crop category. They have also been distributed, the ministry said.
MVR 7.9 million was received as Zakat last year.
