LGA chief Afshan resigns
Afshan also backed Nasheed in the party's presidential primary held in January.
Afshan Latheef on Monday resigned as the chief executive of the Local Government Authority (LGA), the parent body of local councils.
Afshan, who was appointed to the post by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in 2020, told Atoll Times that she submitted her resignation letter on Monday and Thursday was her last day in office.
Afshan said she had discussed the matter with President Solih as well. She, however, did not specify the exact reason for her resignation.
Afshan is the wife of former STO Managing Director Hussain Amr, who is a leading figure in the breakaway faction formed by MDP president Mohamed Nasheed. Afshan also backed Nasheed in the party's presidential primary held in January.
Amr was sacked as managing director of STO in March after he openly supported Nasheed and started working against the government.
