President's Office has corrected and resubmitted the letter nominating a new ambassador to China, after the initial submission mistakenly cited Taiwan's official name.

The letter, signed by the president and sent to the parliament last week, sought the parliament's approval for the president's nomination for the ambassador to the "Republic of China" instead of the correct name of "People's Republic of China".

Deputy speaker Eva Abdulla, who presided over Monday's parliament sitting, said the name has been corrected to the People's Republic of China and resent to parliament.

Chinese ambassador to the Maldives Wan Li Xin said on Twitter on Friday that the Maldivian foreign ministry had apologised to the Chinese government for the error and explained what had happened.

She said the Maldives has assured that there will be no change in the 'One China' policy that the Maldives has adopted in the past.

However, there has been no immediate comment from the government of Maldives.
