President's China visit cost MVR 2.4m; 80K per person

MVR 300,495 was given for the pocket money of 30 people who participated in the trip.

President Mohamed Muizzu's first state to China from 7 to 13 this month cost MVR 2.4 million, the President’s Office said.

President Muizzu has said that he will disclose the expenses of the trips and his deputy makes within 15 days of completion of the trip.

The office on Thursday announced the expenses of the President's visit. The President's Office said the Chinese government provided food and accommodation for the visit.

President arrived in China via Singapore. He returned to Maldives via Dubai. Two million Rufiyaa was spent on the tickets alone. Accordingly:

  • Male-Singapore-Xiamen (Business class tickets for 3 passengers) MVR 185,826.42

  • Male-Singapore-Xiamen (Economy class tickets for 27 passengers) MVR 676,552.50

  • Beijing-Dubai-Male (Business class tickets for 10 passengers) MVR 904,383

  • Beijing-Dubai-Male (Economy class tickets for 19 passengers) MVR 253,720.68

MVR 300,495 was given for the pocket money of 30 people who participated in the trip.

The President’s Office said.

In addition

  • MVR 3,374.79 was spent on the meetings held by President Muizzu with the Maldivians in China

  • MVR 14,341.69 for SIM card and VPN expenses

  • MVR 89,419.58 was spent as incidental expenses

The total cost of the 7-day trip, which cost MVR 2.4 million, divided among the 30 people in the President’s delegation is MVR 80,000 per person.
