Civil Court on Tuesday denied an interim injunction to stop the eviction of ruling MDP from its main camp located in front of Artificial Beach in Male.

The land belongs to former senior party activist Shafiyya Zubair. She is currently working as a key activist with The Democrats, led by MDP president Mohamed Nasheed.

In March, Shafiyya first asked the party to vacate the camp after Nasheed's defeat in the party's presidential primary in January. In the subsequent notice, the party did not vacate the camp and filed a civil suit.

The Civil Court on Tuesday said that the court does not have the power to pass an interim order in such a manner.

Even before the court's ruling, The Democrats had removed posters of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih outside the camp and placed a table there to sign people for the new party.
