People can now experience the digital ID service being developed to be used in many services provided by the state.

Earlier, only 500 Android users who had registered for the service were allowed to experience it, but Android and iOS users will now be able to experience the service before its launch.

Apart from the national ID card, this digital ID includes:

  • Driving licence

  • Marriage certificate

  • Information about family members

  • Business information

  • Civil service employment information (if employed as a civil servant)

  • Aasandha national health insurance scheme transactions

The World Bank last year gave USD 10 million to develop the country's technology industry, including digital ID cards.

The government had earlier said that it was working on introducing digital IDs in the last quarter of last year.

However, president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said in his presidential address this year that the introduction of digital ID and 'one-gov' service this year:

  • Will ensure that copies of ID cards and various documents that are available on the digital platform should not be repeatedly submitted to the government

  • The public will be able to avail services from the ministries and institutions without standing in queues

  • Some public service establishments will go online

  • Physical experience centres to be set up for those who find it difficult to access online services
