STO to increase ICU capacity in Hulhumale by 100%

The number of people seeking services from Hulhumale Hospital has increased manifold with people now inhabiting Hulhumale’s second phase. With this, one of the biggest challenges the hospital, which has been operational for 19 years, now faces in providing adequate services to the hospital is the space constraints.

The population of Hulhumale is increasing day by day. The Hulhumale Hospital currently has only one operating operation theatre. This has caused major challenges in performing some of the day-to-day surgeries. On the other hand, the number of ICU beds in the hospital is too few to serve the growing population in Hulhumale.

An agreement was signed between STO and the Hulhumale Hospital on Tuesday to address the issue. The project was signed on behalf of STO and Hulhumale Hospital:

Under the project, five operating theatres will be developed at the Hulhumale Hospital. These will include theatres for orthopaedics, ophthalmology, gynaecology and general surgery. This will greatly improve the services provided by the Hulhumale Hospital.

According to STO, the ICU and NICU of Hulhumale Hospital will be an integrated and customised facility with state-of-the-art medical facilities and medical equipment.

Given STO's experience in this regard, the Central Sterilisation Department at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital is a similar successful project.

Despite the space constraints, the hospital is currently offering mental health services, an oncology centre for cancer patients and a separate centre for specialised treatment of various health problems in children.
