2-day extension for online re-registration

The deadline for re-registration by submitting the form expires at 4pm next Saturday.

Elections Commission (EC) on Monday decided to give two more days for online re-registration to vote in the September 9 presidential election.

The commission has launched an online portal to facilitate re-registration to vote outside a person's registered island.

While online re-registration was set to end by Monday, the Elections Commission announced that the opportunity will be extended until Wednesday.

Compared to other presidential elections, the response to re-registration for this year's elections is low, the Elections Commission said on Monday. 

  • As of Sunday, 15,000 people have re-registered online

  • So far, only 42.5% of the 40,000 people expected to re-register have re-registered

The deadline for re-registration by submitting a physical form expires at 4pm on Saturday.

EC has decided to allow people who have registered to vote in Male in the last council elections to vote without having to re-register again.

How to re-register?

Online:

  • Can apply through the re-registration portal of the Elections Commission

  • While applying online, applicants need to produce a copy of an official identification document

  • No requests will be accepted via email 

Application for re-registration at the election centre (Dharubaaruge):

  • Issuance and acceptance of forms will be carried out the 

  • The form can be downloaded from the commission's official website

  • At the submission of application, the applicant is required to submit a copy of an identification official document

  • The application will be accepted in such a manner that the person carrying the form is responsible for it

  • An individual can file 10 applications at a time

  • A political party or any other such institution can submit 100 applications with an official letter

  • In all inhabited islands, except Male, council offices will accept applications
