MNP backs PPM-PNC in run off

Maldives National Party (MNP)’s National Council on Monday approved forming a coalition with PPM-PNC in the second round of presidential elections to be held on September 30.
A final decision in this regard will be taken by the party's executive committee.
The National Council of MNP, which won about 2,000 votes in Saturday's presidential election, passed the proposal with a vote of 37 members.
The PPM-PNC and the ruling MDP have invited the MNP to form a coalition in the second round.
Three options were asked for at the MNP council meeting:

First vote called to not join any side; six members voted in favour

Second vote was to move forward with President Solih; No member supported the motion
After the meeting, the MNP said in a statement that the party's executive committee would decide which party they would form a coalition with in the second round.
