President Mohammed Muizzu has waived fines of MVR 2.8 million imposed by the previous government without allotting enough parking spaces, as was promised during his presidential campaign.
Under-Secretary at the President's Office Mohamed Firzul Abdullah Haleel announced this at a press conference at the Presidential Office on Thursday.
During the presidential campaign, President Muizzu said it was unfair to affix stickers without showing where to park in the first place.
Then President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih waived the parking sticker fines that the state had not received in five years after Muizzu made the promise.
Solih had waived the fines up to September 5. Therefore, this government waived the fines imposed from September 5 to the last day of the government, the 16th of last month.
"Now the President has decided to waive the fines imposed from September 5, 2023 to November 16, 2023, in accordance with the law," Firzul said.
"Therefore, those affected by the fines will be waived from Thursday onwards”.
The value of the parking sticker fines waived during this period is MVR 2.8 million, Firzul said.
As part of the 'Week-14' or first 100 days promises of this government, and as part of the development efforts of the entire city, Firzul said that parking spaces will be provided and parking buildings will be set up.
