Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau has said that in order to solve the traffic problems in the city, it is important to limit the number of vehicles that can be registered in the name of one person.
Shujau held a press conference at Iskandharu Koshi on Sunday to announce what he intends to do after he’s taken over as CP. He said traffic issues cannot be solved only through police work, but that a sustainable solution is still needed.
To solve it, he said:
-
The number of vehicles that can be kept in large cities should be fixed
-
The maximum number of vehicles that can be registered per person should also be fixed
-
Vehicle age must be set
-
Parking zones need to be increased
“I don’t believe there will be a solution to this problem unless these issues are resolved,” he said.
Traffic problems are big in Maldives. Solving the traffic problem was a presidential promise of both the previous President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the current President Mohammed Muizzu.
