Police commissioner Mohamed Hameed said on Saturday that the police service will accept criticism to improve the functioning of the police force.
Hameed made the remarks while inaugurating the 'Police Research and Innovation Conference' which began at Rannabandeyri Hall at Dharubaaruge on Saturday.
I believe that my work can be done to the fullest by adopting new ideas and criticism that needs to be heard about the work of the police. Today, local police service is an institution that welcomes and accepts constructive criticism.
Referring to criticism of the police force, Hameed said that in developed countries of the world, the institution of policing has thrived because of the knowledge and research received from different people. He said he believed that this is how the police force in the country can be transformed as well.

The CP said he considered it a good thing as some people had submitted papers to the conference on the basis of research taking interest in the work of the police. Hameed said that this shows the passion of some people to reduce the criminal activity in the country and create a safe and secure environment for everyone.
This year marks the 90th anniversary of the introduction of policing and security forces in the country. This is also the 19th anniversary of the emergence of the police as a separate service and civil entity.
