Fazul Rasheed, who has been appointed as the Managing Director of Urbanco, has been appointed to the post at the ministerial level.
On the President's Office website, Fazul has now been included in the list of ministerial level political positions.
According to the website, at the ministerial level, he has been appointed as the Managing Director of Urbanco, or by the former name Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
The heads of companies are not appointed by the President or the President's Office. It is done by the Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB) on the instructions of the President.
This is not common. Earlier, Ahmed Zuhoor, who served in the cabinet during former President Abdulla Yameen's tenure, was later appointed STELCO's MD at ministerial level.
However, some lawyers who spoke to Atoll Times on Tuesday said that the appointment of heads of companies at ministerial level is not known to the law.
The President's Office could not be reached for comment on the matter.
Before being appointed as the MD of Urbanco, he was elected to the 19th Parliament on the PNC ticket. Before that, he was the MD of MWSC in the government of former President Abdullah Yameen.
